Well surprise, surprise...

I open my blog after years of neglect (damn I can't even say days) only to find I have two blogs I started one in 2008 and the other in 2009.  And this one...the "Family Thing" was supposed to be all about my adoption journey.  Well, the funny thing is I never adopted. And perhaps funnier still is the fact that just a few months after writing that I became pregnant and 9 months (okay 8) after that I gave birth to a beautiful girl.  That story alone is enough to fill a few entries and I think that's exactly what I'll do, recount that journey, talk about the journey of dealing with her dad and the trials of dealing with his family.  I don't know if anyone will ever read it but me.  But I'm pretty damn sure it will help me have some peace and maybe bring about what closure I can.

So lets start with the news and remember I'm telling this story through the haze of memory.  I knew I'd been feeling ill and it was very reminiscent of how I'd felt in 2007 (my first pregnancy) but I thought, nah it couldn't be that.  So I went to the gyne and they did the test and came back with a "Yep, you're pregnant."  And my initial response was sorrow and fear.  I was super scared especially after suffering a miscarriage just two years before and the ridiculous grief.  I don't know how or when I stopped feeling sad and started feeling hopeful but somehow I did.

Now her dad...well he was another story altogether.

The journey begins...

Okay, so that title is a bit disingenuous because the journey really began a while ago when I first started thinking of it but maybe I could change the title to something like the journey begins (in earnest). Yes, I am really planning to adopt. It is something I've considered for some time and I figure now is the best time. I got a raise. I moved intentionally into a two-bedroom condo (probably should have done a 3) and I'm hoping the stars are aligned.
